WORKS IN PROGRESS
I’ve always wished that my past would go up in smoke, but I never meant it like this.
Exodus Omari’s life was always frustratingly normal. That is, until she lost her home to a malicious fire spirit, forcing Exodus and her mother to move into the mysterious Omari House with her uncle and cousin. Instead of photo albums or family heirlooms, though, Exodus finds herself stumbling into a nest of secrets and broken memories of a juju-steeped life in the Magic City. But the more Exodus uncovers her family’s power and her own past, the more it seems like something—or someone—wants her power stamped out. And that they’re more than willing to hunt her down to do it.
Orli Maddox had her plans for junior year locked-in. Shoot for straight As (settle for straight Bs), find a part time job after school, schmooze her girlfriend’s mom enough to take her to Junior prom without an incident. But when a panic attack overloads part of the city’s power grid, all that planning seemingly goes out the window. Jericho, the world’s mightiest man, offers an apprenticeship with him in the police’s extra-human operations department, and it seems like a chance for Orli to not only get her life back on track, but help people in the process. Only between her girlfriend’s scrutiny of Orli’s police work and her boss’s increasingly excessive tactics, she starts to wonder just how much protecting and serving the department really does.
